Working on Board

Hapag-Lloyd offers a global network with approximately 250 container vessels. Forty of those vessels sail under the German Flag and are managed in the city of their home port Hamburg. For these state-of-the-art containerships we are always seeking highly qualified staff.

Environment protection,  safety- and quality management have a high priority for Hapag-Lloyd on board and ashore. Our Internal Safety Management system is more strict than the regulations. We support the commitment of our crew regarding safety, environmental protection and efficiency.

Continuously training of our crew assures keeping our accident rate on board on a very low level, far below the average in our industry.

Port state controls as same as external audits award our ships and crews permanently with best scores.

Our technical inspection ashore ensures in cooperation with the boardmanagement an excellent technical condition of our ships, as these should not only be a work place but should also be a home for two to four month.

As we set high standards regarding our training program, Hapag-Lloyd also bears the costs for seminars and takes over the organisation. As a matter of course we offer trainings that exceed the mandatory STCW trainings.

Our more than 100 apprentices are trained on our vessels under the German Flag for our own demand. For our excellent training program we have been awarded as the first German shipping company by the Berufsbildungsstelle Seeschifffahrt e.V..

The salary is according to the current HTV-See (Heuertarifvertrag-See = Full German social security contributions, remuneration according to the German seaman's wage agreement).

The workers`council represents our seafarers in all questions and concerns.
